ProFauna Trains Bali Police Officers on Wildlife Law Enforcement

ProFauna Trains Bali Police Officers on Wildlife Law EnforcementProFauna Bali working together with Yayasan Manikaya Kauci (a local foundation) provided Bali Police Officers on wildlife law enforcement training on 19 September 2012 in Denpasar, Bali. The training was included in the communication training held by Yayasan Manikaya Kauci. 32 police officers as participants were enthusiastic to follow the activities in the training of wildlife law enforcement because such training was rarely held.

In the training, ProFauna disseminated the knowledge of identification of the protected wildlife which were commonly sold, wildlife smuggling methods, and the wildlife law. During the training, some officers shared that the sea turtle smuggling in Bali was taking place using new method where the smugglers chopped the sea turtle meat before shipping it. This gave difficulties for the officers to identify the illegal shipment. They also expressed their expectation to ProFauna that they could work together closely in order to tackle the illegal sea turtle trade in Bali.

An official, the Police Grand Commissioner Adjutant Fatimah Nasution, SH. MH. CD, who attended the training, expressed his gratitude to ProFauna Bali and Yayasan Manikaya Kauci for holding such valuable training. Fatimah Nasution also hoped that the Police and ProFauna could work together in enforcing the wildlife law in Bali. ProFauna welcomed the offer and would hold intensive communication between the ProFauna and the police.

Previously, ProFauna Indonesia had published booklet and poster on identification guides of the protected wildlife which were commonly sold. The organization distributed the copies of the booklet and poster to enforcement authorities for free. After the distribution, ProFauna held several law enforcement training for the authorities in some regions.
