ProFauna Trains Merubetiri National Park Officers on Bird Census

ProFauna Trains Merubetiri National Park Officers on Bird CensusProFauna Indonesia has provided trainings for the Merubetiri National Park that is located in the Eastern part of East Java, for several times. From 21st to 23rd February 2012, ProFauna Indonesia working together with its education center called Petungsewu Wildlife Education Center (P-WEC), trained the officers of the national park on bird inventory (census) and ecotourism development in P-WEC center. The trainees who were from the Control Division of Forest Ecosystem (abbreviated and known as PEH) were taken to the field to practice out the bird inventory because the National Park they work with is inhabited by more than 180 bird species.

The bird inventory training was presented by Asep Purnama, one of P-WEC educators who is experienced in bird and primate census activities. Apart from that, the participants also learned about ecotourism development from Rosek Nursahid, ProFauna Indonesia's Chairman. Nursahid who has visited the national park for several times emphasized on wild animal watching as the tourism attraction of the national park as it becomes the habitats of more than 217 wildlife species.

ProFauna Indonesia has serious concerns on the management of nature conservation areas such as national parks, because the nature conservation area should be the safe home for wildlife. Besides supporting Merubetiri National Park with several trainings, ProFauna also provides assistances to other natural conservation areas such as Baluran National Park and R Soerjo Grand Forest Park.
