From Local to International Actions For Forest and Wildlife in Indonesia

From Local to International Actions For Forest and Wildlife in IndonesiaIn running its main activities including investigation, law enforcement, public campaign, and education; ProFauna Indonesia has been helped by its volunteers, which are called ProFauna Supporters, from all over Indonesia and overseas. Starting from becoming informants in wildlife trade, carrying banners and posters during the street campaigns, to helping the campaigners in school visits and education activities, ProFauna Supporters voluntarily help ProFauna to protect forest and wildlife in Indonesia.

Besides providing help and assistances for ProFauna members, ProFauna Supporters also run their own activities independently. In the late August 2011, two local volunteers from Sulawesi Island and Madura Island held wildlife conservation film screening for the local communities. They were Hamka and Muhammad Musthofa who joined ProFauna's Animal Welfare training on 6 - 7 June 2011 and committed to spread the lessons to their communities afterward. Hamka, goes by one name like most Indonesians do, is a government forestry officer from South Sulawesi and Muhammad Musthofa is a teacher in an Islamic boarding school in Madura.

From Local to International Actions For Forest and Wildlife in IndonesiaOn the neighboring continent, Alice Coates from Queensland - Australia organized an art auction on 31 August 2011 to celebrate the International Year of Forests. In the event called "Paint the World Green", it allowed the community to bid on paintings created by high-profile people and all the proceeds from the paintings will help preserve the integrity and rich biodiversity of the forests through donations to ProFauna Indonesia and Greenpeace Australia Pacific. Ms. Coates who is an animal right activist has volunteered for ProFauna since April 2010. "My time spent volunteering in East Java (ProFauna's center) has taught me everything we do to help, however small it may seem, is making a huge difference on a grassroots level," she quoted.

Anyone in anywhere with any background can join and help ProFauna to help the organization protect forest and wildlife in Indonesia.
