Indonesian Primate Day 2017 Celebrated by Hundreds from Kalimantan to Sulawesi

Since its initiation by Protection of Forest & Fauna (PROFAUNA), the Indonesian Primate Day has become a mutual moment anticipated in excitement by many people in Indonesia. Each year, Indonesian Primate Day events always involve hundreds, who want to express their concern for the conservation of Indonesian primates.

Indonesian Primate Day is getting closer to becoming Indonesian people's event, not PROFAUNA's. This is shown by the increasing number of participants coing from various background, not limited to PROFAUNA's supporters.

This fact that more people are taking part in the celebration is very heartwarming. The event celebrated every year on 30 January  has turned into a momentum to spread the awareness 'virus' so that wider audience will become more aware towards primate conservation issues.

This year, the Indonesian Primate Day is celebrated in 19 events in 13 cities across 8 provinces in Indonesia. Cities celebrating the moment were Kabupaten Malang, Kota Malang, Kutai Timur, Tulungagung, Ternate, Surabaya, Jakarta, Sukadana, Pangkalan Bun, Banjarmasin, Minahasa, Purwokerto, and Manado. The 19 events consisted of 12 education activities and 7 public campaigns.

Surprisingly, the education activities were not carried out strictly by school teachers or at schools. There were education activities held in hobbies community, local neighborhood, and even at a hospital!

hari primata Indonesia di Kalsel The public campaigns were unique as wel, as they involved variosus communities in different locations. There were events with children, dozens joint communities, even fisherme.

All these festivities are bringing the Indonesian Primate Day closer to its major aim: become a mass movement of Indonesian public. Surely all the involved parties hope that all the real action we were taking in a united spirit to promote a better protection for Indonesian primates could inspire more people to be more aware and would join the movement.
