(02/25/2010) The decreasing forests in Java Island threats the lives of humans and wildlife, especially those endemic to the Island. The recently increasing natural and man-made disasters indicate that forests have degraded.

(01/06/2010) Forests in Java Island, Indonesia, degrade which threat human and other living things on the Island, especially wildlife endemic to Java. Based on the deforestation pace published by the Forestry Department for 2003-2006 period, the largest deforestation happened in Sumatera which was 268,000 hectares/year or 22,8% of the total deforestation in Indonesia which was 1.17 millions hectares/year. The next places were in Kalimantan for 239,000 hectares/year (20.4%), Sulawesi for 114,700 hectares/year (9.8 %), and Java for 2,500 hectares/year (0.2%).

(01/06/2010) The level of the illegal trade and smuggling of the protected wildlife in Indonesia in 2009 is quite high. ProFauna's Indonesia latest survey recorded that 70 animal (bird) markets in Java Island traded 183 protected species. Among the 70 markets which were located in 58 different cities, 14 of them sold parrots, 21markets sold primates, 11 markets sold mammals, and 13 markets sold raptors. Besides those target species, protected singing birds were also sold in 11 markets.

(11/05/2009) Two weeks after ProFauna Indonesia, a wildlife protection organization, launched its survey report on protected wildlife being traded in the animal markets (locally called bird markets) in Java Island, the East Java Police Department with the assistance of ProFauna Indonesia the Humane Society International (HSI), seized dozens of rare wildlife in Ngawi City, East Java on 5th November 2009.

(10/22/2009) The illegal wildlife trade in bird markets in Java Island, Indonesia, is still high. From the latest survey conducted by ProFauna Indonesia with support by the World Animal Net (WAN) in 70 bird markets in the most developed and dense island in the country from May to July 2009. ProFauna recorded that there were 183 animals of 25 species traded openly in the markets.

The Indonesian celebs like SLANK, a group band that has more than three millions fans in Indonesia, and Melanie Subono, a female rock star, have joined ProFauna and supported its campaigns. There is a new celeb supporter that comes from Yogyakarta, Central Java, supporter is a reggae band named MARAPU.
