Slank Launched "Ride For Orangutan 2013" Team

Slank Launches ProFauna's "Ride for Orangutan" Team Off to Sumatra on Orangutan CampaignIndonesia's biggest rock band, Slank, launched ProFauna Indonesia's Ride for Orangutan (RFO) team who will be touring around Sumatra Island for two months to promote the protection of orangutans and their habitats (20/4/2013). The RFO team left Slank's base camp in Potlot, Jakarta, for Merak port escorted by riders from different communities. Before send the team off, Slank performed several environment-themed songs to spirit up ProFauna, whom they have been supporting since 2002.

In the RFO campaign starting from 20 April up to 20 May 2013, the team will conduct educational programs in schools and universities across Sumatra about the protection of orangutans and their habitat. ProFauna's activists will also hold community engagement in public places, involving local communities. ProFauna is also planning to pay a visit to orangutans' natural habitat as well as their rehabilitation center in North Sumatra and Aceh.

In this very year after the RFO campaign in over, Slank and ProFauna plan to have a concert for charity, a fundraising show to help wildlife conservation in Indonesia. The concert will not be only with Slank, but it is expected to attract other artists or musicians who are concerned about Indonesia's nature.

Bimbim, Slank's drummer, said, "Slank support ProFauna to conserve orangutans, who are supposed to live in the forests." Kaka, the vocalist, added "We have known and supported ProFauna for a long time, and this campaign in great so we will espouse it completely."

Made Astuti, the spokesperson for RFO team, stated, "This campaign is unique, and different from the other campaigns because in each place we visit in Sumatra, ProFauna will involve local communities' and local Slankers' participation. This is essential and it symbolizes that the protection of orangutans and their habitat should embrace all walks of life." Made Astuti, one of the rider in this campaign added, "We are so grateful that Slank took part in our departure because it may increase our support from Slankers in Sumatra.

This campaign in dirtbikes tour is supported by International Primate Protection League (IPPL) and Tokobagus.com is expected to raise people's awareness towards the conservation of orangutans and their habitats. ProFauna also endeavors to get the government to take this issue more seriously.
