Celebrate the Earth Day in Lampung with Convoy and Crash-course on Orangutan Conservation

Activists held a theatrical demonstration in Tugu Gajah, Bandar LampungProFauna Indonesia's activists collaborated with motorbikes community, Slank's fans club, and environmental organization in Lampung to celebrate the Earth Day in 22 April by doing a convoy around Bandar Lampung streets to promote the conservation of orangutans and their habitats. Prior to the convoy, the activists held a theatrical demonstration in Tugu Gajah, Bandar Lampung, by holding posters "Save Sumatran Orangutan" while wearing orangutan costumes. After the demonstration, the horde headed for UNILA campus in a convoy. There, our activists gave a crash-course to the students about orangutan conservation.

The campaign in Bandar Lampung drew the eyes of local people as well as mass media because it was done in a unique way. Even policemen would not miss the chance to take pictures with the activists in the costumes. The participation of Slankers (Slank's fans) and other motorbikes communities, including Tribal (trail community) made the campaign in Lampung even merrier.

ProFauna's chairman, Rosek Nursahid, who was about to give a seminar before the students of Forestry DepartmentWhen we were done in Tugu Gajah, the convoy moved to UNILA campus, escorting ProFauna's chairman, Rosek Nursahid, who was about to give a seminar before the students of Forestry Department. The seminar was attended by about 75 people and also the vice Dean of the Forestry Faculty, UNILA. The audiences were attentive and enthusiastic in following the lecture. They avidly asked questions to the speaker who answered thoroughly to the question in a way easily understood by the students.

Nano Suyono, one of the forestry students, asked "What is the role of the government on the orangutan conservation, since the forests home to the orangutans is quickly decreased." Another student, Endang Oktarini, asked "How to synchronize economic development with orangutan conservation?" Rosek Nursahid answered all those questions clearly and triggered further discussion. It is plain to see that the students enjoyed the seminar very much.

ProFauna's campaign in Bandar Lampung is the outset of Ride for Orangutan tour, which will pass 6 provinces in Sumatra, namely Lampung, South Sumatra, Jambi, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh. This tour around Sumatra on dirtbikes is planned to run for 2 months. Made Astuti, the spokesperson of the team, said "We are very thankful to the motorbikes community, Slankers, ProFauna's supporters, and the students of UNILA who have been zealously support our program. This is undoubtedly a good beginning for our next campaigns in Sumatra."
