Mathias Muchus peduli hutanDAU-The rapid deforestation rate in Indonesia has moved our famed senior actor Mathias Muchus to take part in forest conservation campaigns. The winner of 1988 Citra Award supports ProFauna forest conservation campaign, so said him at P-WEC, Dau, yesterday.

Mathias, who is starting to be a director, is known to be a person with a high environmental awareness. Thus, he decided to join ProFauna in the struggle to save Indonesian forests. "Forest and humans are inseparable. So, in this case, we humans have to be able to look at forests as our breath of life," he told Malang Post.

Born in Pagar Alam, South Sumatra, he believes that without forests humans will soon vanish too. He said that the severe condition of our forests in Sumatra and Borneo needs serious attention from many parties such as the government, NGOs, Communities, the youths, and general public. "The government usually works on making policies and calculates them with the benefits. Then we need the others to would willingly work for forest protection."

The 56 years old actor who had just launched his new film entitled "Rindu Purnama" appreciates what have been done by ProFauna's founder, Rosek Nursahid. He thinks that a person like Rosek is hard to find in Indonesia nowadays.

"I didn't have to think twice to join this event. When Rosek invited me, I just said yes rightaway. I have known and worked with Rosek for a long time, because we share the same concern about the environment."

Meanwhile, Rosek explained that this event is attended by ProFauna's supporters from 16 provinces in Indonesia as well as from Germany, USA, England, and Spain. All those representatives will share about forests problems in their regions. "Mathias Muchus will later read the declaration on forest conservation in front of the attendees."  He hopes that this event can raise people's awareness to pay more attention and care about our forest by not overly exploit the forests.
