Two English Ladies Volunteer at Wehea Forest, East Kalimantan

Not many people wants to spend their time and money for social works deep in a jungle. That does not seem to apply for two English ladies, Ashley Michelle Philbeck and Ling Fang. Both are students at Sheffield University, and they are currently volunteering with PROFAUNA at Wehea forest, East Kalimantan.

Living in the jungle with minimum facilities, no phone nor internet connection, they have shown tremendous spirit in their activities. In the forest administered by the customary institution of Dayak Wehea with aid from PROFAUNA, Ashley and Ling Fang carry out various tasks including forest patrol, wildlife monitoring, facility maintenance, and installation of forest conservation information boards.

"It has been PROFAUNA's commitment to provide volunteers and rangers to safeguard this forest, as a part of our partnership with the customary institution of Dayak Wehea in nehas Liah Bing village," said Erik Yanuar, PROFAUNA's ranger serving in Wehea forest.

Meanwhile, the coordinator of PROFAUNA Borneo,  Bayu Sandi, added "We are glad that there are many supporters of PROFAUNA who are interested in volunteering here in Wehea. I hope that this could boost the people of Wehea in protecting their indigenous forest."

Thank you Ashley and Ling Fang!
