Marine Affairs & Fisheries Minister: “Do not catch the fishes...”

Indonesia's Minister of Marine Affairs & Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti, in front of the government officials of Berau regency and fishermen groups emphasized the policy of the Ministry of Marine Affairs & Fisheries related to sustainable fishery. In the meeting held on 16 November 2014 in Tanjung Batu, Berau, she said "Do not catch the fishes using destructive method and devices like bombs, for this will surely wipe them away."

Protection of Forest & Fauna (PROFAUNA) Borneo was also on the meeting, and strongly supports this policy. "Beside the unsustainable practice of fishery, PROFAUNA will also encourage the ministry to pay more attention to sea turtle eggs trade because it is still rampant in Borneo," claimed Bayu Sandi, the coordinator of PROFAUNA Borneo.
