Learning Forest Conservation Enjoyably at PROFAUNA Forest Camp IX
Dozens of enthusiastic young people participated in the PROFAUNA Forest Camp IX event, held in the P-WEC forest from 13-17 July 2024. In addition to the P-WEC forest, they also practiced directly in the Trachy forest.
The backgrounds of the forest camp participants, supported by IPPL and Petungsewu Adventure, varied greatly, ranging from social studies to forestry. The participants came from diverse regions, not only from Java but also from North Sumatra and Sulawesi.
For several days, the participants enthusiastically participated in various activities, including outdoor activities. Topics such as forest vegetation analysis and wildlife census required participants to directly practice in a dense, natural forest. Practicing in the forest was a separate challenge because not all participants had a background in forestry.
The activities in the P-WEC forest were also very interesting. Participants learned about river pollution, got to know wild plants that can be consumed, and played as nature detectives. There were also teamwork-building games that made the participants more compact and happy.
One of the exciting and competitive activities was the Jungle Art program session. In this session, participants created artwork using natural materials found in the forest. The involvement of two foreign participants, George from the UK and Konika from India, made this Jungle Art session even more exciting.
"Introducing conservation and forest management rules in an enjoyable way is one of the main objectives of this forest camp activity," said Muhammad Anastiana, a PROFAUNA Indonesia staff member.
