Joint Team Installs Wildlife Hunting Prohibition Signs in Kasembon Forest
A joint team consisting of members from Perhutani KPH Malang, PROFAUNA Indonesia, the
Indonesian Army (TNI AD), the police, and local communities installed five wildlife hunting
prohibition signs in Kasembon Forest, Malang Regency, on September 10, 2024. The activity
also included forest patrols aimed at preventing wildfires and wildlife hunting. The team
involved a total of 28 people.
The installation of the wildlife hunting prohibition signs is based on the fact that illegal hunting
is still occurring in the Kasembon forest area. One case of such hunting can be read about at the
following link: Wildlife Hunting in Kasembon.
PROFAUNA Indonesia expressed its appreciation for this initiative led by Perhutani, as issues
like wildlife hunting and forest fires are collective concerns. "In addressing forestry issues related to wildfires and wildlife hunting, it's crucial to involvevarious stakeholders, including local communities. Forest managers cannot tackle these issues",said Rosek Nursahid, an ecologist of PROFAUNA Indonesia.
In addition to installing the wildlife hunting prohibition signs, the team also placed signs
forbidding open fires within the forest area. During the dry season, forests are highly susceptible
to fires caused by land clearing or burning leaves and branches.
