Exciting and Educational: Biodiversity Exploration Activities at the P-WEC Educational Forest
More than 30 people enthusiastically participated in the biodiversity exploration activities at the P-WEC Educational Forest on Sunday (September 7, 2025). They participated in the P-WEC forest to learn about rare tree species, bird watching, and tree nurseries.
The activities began with a morning bird watching session. Most of the participants, many of whom were birdwatching for the first time, were very enthusiastic. They expressed their joy when they successfully identified a bird.
More than 50 bird species have been recorded in the P-WEC Educational Forest. This abundance of bird species is due to the abundance of tree species found in the P-WEC Educational Forest.
"It turns out that if you observe carefully, there are many birds in nature. This activity is very enjoyable, because it's not just about walking in nature, but also about observing wildlife, such as birds," said Indah, one of the participants.
After birdwatching, participants were guided by P-WEC facilitators for another equally engaging activity. The next activity was an exploration of the biodiversity of rare trees found in the P-WEC educational forest. There are over 130 tree species in the P-WEC Educational Forest, located at the foot of the Kawi Mountains.
Most participants experienced rare trees for the first time, including various types of ficus, juwet, rukem, cereme, and cempedak. Participants were also given the opportunity to sample some of the fruits of these trees, such as the genitu tree.
Satisfied with learning about rare tree species and their uses, participants continued on to learn about tree nursery techniques, which was equally exciting. Participants practiced mixing soil, placing it in polybags, and planting tree seedlings.
Spending the morning until midday in the P-WEC forest, participating in this biodiversity exploration, was a joy. Not only was it a recreational experience, but it also broadened their knowledge of tree species and wild birds.
