Educating the People of South Malang about Langur and Forest Conservation

Activists of Protection of Forest and Fauna (PROFAUNA) visited Sitiarjo village in South Malang to hold an educational program about langur and forest conservation (3/7/2014). On the occasion, PROFAUNA showed a film about how langur is related to forest conservation in Java. The show attended by more than 30 people was followed by a fruitful discussion.

Prior to this activity, PROFAUNA received some information that langur poaching is still rampant in the remaining forest of South Malang. Therefore, PROFAUNA collaborates with the International Primate Protection League (IPPL) conduct a series of education and campaign programs about langur and its habitat in Java. PROFAUNA's campaign officer, Bayu Sandi, said "The Javan Langur is a key species that holds a vital role in conservation because it only lives in a good forest. Their presence could be a sign of good natural environment."
