Bird Watching with the PROFAUNA Indonesia team
PROFAUNA Indonesia Foundation in collaboration with Petungsewu Adventure offers a bird watching program on the slopes of Mount Arjuna. This program is not just a bird watching tour, but also supports forest and wildlife conservation activities carried out by PROFAUNA Indonesia and local communities in the area.
Conservation programs on the slopes of Mount Arjuna carried out by PROFAUNA Indonesia include anti-poaching forest patrols, reforestation of protected forests, installation of information boards prohibiting poaching, agroforestry and education. PROFAUNA Indonesia has been assisting forest farmer groups on the slopes of Arjuna since 2020.

BIRD WATCHING LOCATION PROFILE
The bird watching location is on the slopes of Mount Arjuna, with an altitude of between 1000 to 1600 meters above sea level. Vegetation in the form of pine trees, coffee plantations and heterogeneous forests.
The best time to observe birds in this area is from 6:00 to 10:00 and from 15:00 to 17:30. For the best observation months are the dry season which usually occurs from April to October. As for the rainy season, it is recommended to observe only in the morning, because in the afternoon it tends to rain.
Several types of birds that are often found on the slopes of Mount Arjuna include the Javan eagle (Nisaetus bartelsi), crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela), black eagle (Ictinaetus malayensis), Yellow-eared barbet (Psilopogon australis), Coppersmith barbet (Psilopogon haemacephala), Black-banded barbet (Psilopogon javensis), Chestnut-breasted malkoha (Phaenicophaeus curvirostris), Javan kingfisher (Halcyon cyanoventris), river kingfisher (Todirhamphus chloris), small minivet (Pericrocrotus cinnamomeus) and others.
Meanwhile, the mammals that exist include East Javan Langur (Trachypithecus auratus), Crab-eating macaque (Macaca fascicularis) and Southern red muntjac (Muntiacus muntjak).
FEES & FACILITIES
To participate in bird watching activities, a donation fee of IDR 325,000 per person is charged and the minimum number of participants is 2 people. If for example there is only 1 participant and still wants to bird watch, then the fee is IDR 325,000 X 2, which is IDR 650,000.
The profits from this bird watching activity will be donated to the preservation of birds and their natural habitat. By joining the bird watching package with PROFAUNA, it means that you have contributed to the preservation of birds and their habitat.
Facilities for participants are guides, bird field guide books, binoculars and entrance tickets. Field guide books and binoculars will be lent by PROFAUNA. If you have your own binoculars or camera, it would be better.
HOW TO GET TO THE BIRD WATCHING LOCATION
Transportation to the bird watching location is borne by the participants themselves, but PROFAUNA can also provide transportation at an additional cost. The location of the gathering point is on the edge of the forest in the Batu City area which can be reached by private vehicles (motorcycles or cars).
BIRD WATCHING TIME
Bird watching usually done in the morning, starting at 06.00. The bird watching activity time is around 3 - 5 hours. Bird watching can also be done in the afternoon, starting around 15.00, but this can only be done during the dry season.
