Bird watching in Ketingan Beach, Sidoarjo

There were forty activists of ProFauna Indonesia called, ProFauna Supporters, went bird watching in Ketingan Beach, Sidoarjo. The bird watching was the group's regular activity called Wild Animal Watching (WAW) held on 12th March 2013. The activists coming from Malang, Sidoarjo, and Surabaya cities found 27 water birds. Compared to the results in March 2012 which were 23 birds, there was an increase.

Bird watching in Ketingan Beach, SidoarjoDespite the hot weather, participants enjoyed watching the birds flying over and perching on the mangrove trees. The birds could also be found by the fish ponds. Most of them were big in sizes that made them easy to be watched. Some of the participants were new birdwatchers that they were really excited to see birds in the natural habitats for the first time.

The watched birds include:

  2. Black-crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax)
  3. Nankeen Night Heron (Nycticorax caledonicus)
  4. Cerulean Kingfisher (Alcedo coerulescens)
  5. Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher (Ceyx erithacus)
  6. Little Egret (Egretta garzetta)
  7. Eastern Reef Heron (Egretta sacra)
  8. Striated Heron (Butorides striatus)
  9. Black Drongo (Dricrurus macrocercus)
  10. Sunda Coucal (Centropus nigrorufus)
  11. Sooty-headed Bulbul (Pycnonotus aurigaster)
  12. Yellow-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus goiavier)
  13. Pacific Swallow (Hirundo tahitica)
  14. Glossy Swiftlet (Collocalia esculenta)
  15. Common Tern (Sterna Sp.)
  16. Little Cormorant (Phalacrocorax niger)
  17. Collared Kingfisher (Todirhampus chloris)
  18. Oriental White-eye (Zosterops palpebrosus)
  19. Yellow-bellied Prinia (Prinia flaviventris)
  20. Chestnut-headed Bee-eater (Merops leschenaulti)
  21. Long-tailed Shrike (Lanius schah)
  22. Aegithina tiphia (Aegithina tiphia)
  23. Black Bittern (Dupetor flavicollis)
  24. Plovers (Charadrius Sp.)
  25. Javan Munia (Lonchura leucogastroides)
  26. Scarlet-headed Flowerpecker (Dicaeum trochileum)
  27. Spotted Dove (Streptopelia chinensis)
